Over 1,000 prisoners suffer from tuberculosis in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan accounts for over 2,000 prisoners, registered as drug addicts.

All of them are potential AIDS carriers.

The due announcement was made by Khadi Rajabli, chairman of the permanent parliamentary commission for social protection, APA reports.

He said there are over 1,000 prisoners, suffering from tuberculosis, in Azerbaijan. 650 prisoners are carriers of various infections.

The chairman added that 7,000 prisoners underwent medical treatment in 1989-2007. Azerbaijan records 51 penitentiary wards, including 17 prisons, 13 level-6 institutions, 1 correctional wards, 1 medial wards, 1 closed type wards, 3 investigation wards, 15 temporary detention facilities.
