"Human Rights in the XXI Century - Azerbaijan" Foundation discussed annual report on state of human rights in Azerbaijan, Shahin Jamalov President of the "Human Rights in the XXI Century - Azerbaijan" Foundation told APA.

The report covers court system, freedom of speech and expression, human trafficking, prisoner, woman, refugee and IDPs, as well as protection of military servicemen’s rights.

Jamalov stated that, the document will be presented to international organizations.

“Several measures were taken to improve the activity of courts within a year. Board on Administrative Disputes under Supreme Court and Baku Appeal Court will be established in the future. Candidates for judgeship were qualified and Appeal Courts began to operate in the regions, “he said.

Chapter” Freedom of speech and expression “of the report assesses President’s pardon decree and release of 5 journalists from jail. It was stated that, some journalists did not obey the proper norms. Jamalov noted that, serious measures were taken in the struggle against human trafficking.

“187 criminal cases were revealed in the country in the first six months of 2007. Unfortunately, the majority of criminals were women,” he said.

Mammad Nazimoglu, chief executive of the Freedom of Speech Protection Fund Kifayat Niftaliyeva, head of Woman World Organization and others stated their opinions on the report.
