Number of HIV-infected makes up 1,379 people in Azerbaijan

The due announcement was made by Haqiqat Gadirova, head of the Republican Anti-AIDS center, Day.Az reports.

She said 441 facts, connected with HIV-infected, were recorded in 2007, 214 in 2006, 206 in 2005, 102 in 2004.

"Of 1,379 HIV-infected people, 1320 are citizens of Azerbaijan. Most of them were infected when using injection drugs", Gadirova said.

It should be reminded that the number of HIV-infection carriers made up 2,500,000 people in 2007. 2,100,000 people died last year from AIDS.
