Work group of human rights discusses list of political prisoners presented by Azerbaijan's human rights activists

Chingiz Ganizade, member of the work group, chairman of the Committee for Democracy and Human Rights, told APA that the session participants discussed list of political prisoners, which included 33 people.

According to Ganizade, during the discussions the participants reached agreement on a number of issues. The human rights activists offered to release sick prisoners and reporters, who served a bigger part of their term.

It was noted during the session that the concept "political prisoner"  does not satisfy the officials and the release of the people should be regarded as a demonstration of humanism.

He said Work Group member Eldar Zeynalov presented the list of 72 political prisoners on behalf of the Federation of Human Rights.

"The list included 14 people who made an attempt upon officials lives. We did not treat the list seriously, as it is far from reality".

Ganizade, being confident about effectiveness of discussions, added that human rights activity believe that the decree of pardon will be signed on the eve of Novruz Holiday.

The next session of the work group is to be held in early April.
