Previously beaten correspondent of “Azadlig” newspaper gets knife wound - UPDATED

"I know one of those who hit me with the knife. This person has been pursuing me since February 23".

The due announcement was made by Azadlyg newspaper reporter Agil Halil, who was attacked on March 13.

According to the reporter, three people were pursuing him on that day. These people attacjed him with a knife amidst houses and then run away.

Halil also said he feels bad.

A criminal case in line with article 127.1 of the Criminal Code (deliberate causing of slight damage to health) has been instituted due to the injury caused to Azadlyg opposition newspaper correspondent Agil Khalil.

Spokesman for Azerbaijan's Ministry of Internal Affairs Sadig Gezalov told APA that the investigation of the criminal case will be controlled by Azerbaijan's Interior Minister Ramil Usubov and prosecutor general Zakir Garalov.

Considering the seriousness of the event, the Prosecutor General empowered the investigation not to the district or territorial police station, but to the Investigation department of the head police station of Baku.

Gezalov noted that operative search is going on to reveal those who have committed the crime.

Criminal case has been instituted on the fact of wounding the previously beaten correspondent of Azadlyg newspaper Agil Khalil.

The due announcement was made by general director of the edition Azer Akhmedov.

He said yesterday Khalil underwent surgery on heart.

"I have visited our reported today. He said he does not feel his left part of thorax", Akhmedov noted.

He said he feels normal and has been transfered to a common ward.

"Officers of the 26th Yasamal police office have visited him, announcing that the fact will be investigated", Akhmedov said.

According to him, those, who committed this crime know A. Khlil closely.

When A. Khalil wanted to escape, they hit him to his heart.

Yasamal District Police Office No 26 has launched a criminal case and the investigation is underway.
