Azerbaijani human rights activist Arzu Abdullayeva goes on hunger strike

31 March 2008 [11:12] - TODAY.AZ
Arzu Abdullayeva, chairman of the Azerbaijani National Committee on the International Helsinki Civil Assembly, went on hunger strike in support of imprisoned editor-in-chief of Gundelik Azerbaijan newspaper Eynulla Fatullayev, Day.Az reports.

She said she holds the action in her office.

"I will visit the publishing house of Yeni Musavat newspaper after work to meet with starving reporters Shahveled Chobanoghlu, Natiq Javadly, Elshan Balakhanly and editor-in-chief of Yeni Musavat newspaper Zahid Safaroghlu", Abdullayeva noted.

The human rights activist noted that she is Fatullayev's defender and consider the accusation presented to them to be absurd.

"A number of international organizations recognized Fatullayev as prisoner of conscience", Abdullayeva said.

It should be noted that on March 26 Eynulla Fatullayev, editor-in-chief of Gundelik Azerbaijan newspaper, sentenced to 8 years, went on hunger strike demanding the release of imprisoned reporters.
