Baku Appellate Court cuts jail term of imprisoned journalist

The Baku Appelate Court chaired by judge Sahibkhan Mirzoyev considered the appeal of the journalist of Bizim Yol newspaper Mushvig Huseynov against the decision, passed by the first instance court, as said the defender of the journalist Vugar Hasiyev.
By the decision of the Appellate Court, the court cut Huseynov's term of imprisonment down to 5 years.

Hasiyev noted that the court did not grant their request to pass the verdict of not guilty.

It should be reminded that on January 21, the Court of Grave Crimes sentenced Huseynov to 6 years of imprisonment. Moreover, he was prohibited to undertake journalist activity within 2 years.

The journalist was arrested on July 24 of this year by officials of the Ministry of National Security. He is charged with bribery (article 311.1).
