Baku to host summit of religious leaders in 2009

Novosti-Azerbaijan reports with reference to the Azerbaijani embassy to Russia that the due initiative was made by head of the Caucasus Muslims Department Sheikhulislam Haji Allahshukur Pashazade during the meeting of UN Secretary General Pan Gi Mun with religious figures in Moscow.

The event participants supported the said initiative. The summit is planned to be held in October of 2009.

They also supported the idea of creating a Consultative Religious Center under the UN.

It should be reminded that the meeting of religious leaders with UN Secretary General Pan Gi MUn, attended by chairman of the Caucasus Moslems Department Sheikhislam Allahshukur Pashazade, was held in Moscow on April 10.

The meeting participants discussed possible ways of implementation of the appeal of the World Summit of Religious Leaders held in Moscow on July 2-5 of 2006 for the establishment of a "more systematic partnership of religious figures with the United Nations Organization".
