As of April 1 the population of Azerbaijan made up 8,653,000 people, a source from the State Statistical Committee told Day.Az.

As is noted the country's population has risen 23,000 or by 0.3% through the first three months of this year. At the same time, 4,477,000 people (51.7%) live in towns and 4,176,000 (48.3%) in rural areas.
4,269,000 people are men (49.3%) and 4,384,000 people are women (50.7%). The average age of the population is 31 years old, life-span is 72.4 years. The indicator makes up 69.7% among men and 75,1% among women.
38,000 people were born within 3 months of 2008 with 417 daily on average. Of them 53.4% of boys and 46.6% are girls. Most infants are prime-pairs: 330 twins and 3 triplets.
16,200 marriages and 2,000 divorces were registered in January-March.
