Exhibition of Azerbaijani photographers opens in Geneva - PHOTO

An exhibition of Azerbaijani photographers on "The Country, where cultures meet: power is diversity" opened in the Geneva Palace of Nations, said a source from the permanent representation of Azerbaijan under the UN office in Geneva.

As is reported, the event was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps, international and nongovernmental organizations, accredited in Geneva and Azerbaijani students in Geneva, as well as our compatriots, living there.

Sergei Orzhonikidze, director general of the UN office in Geneva and UN deputy Secretary General, thanked the permanent representation of Azerbaijan for active participation in the program of cultural arrangements of the United Nations and stressed importance and timeliness of organization of such a photo exhibition which evidences Azerbaijan's loyalty to such basic values of the organization as diversity and tolerance.

He stressed a traditionally high level of tolerance within the Azerbaijani society, where representatives of numerous ethnic and religious groups are peacefully co-existing. He also voiced confidence that numerous photos, reflecting wealthy ethnic and religious palette of Azerbaijan, will cause a real interest of the visitors.

Orzhonikidze highly assessed the significant contribution of Azerbaijan into a dialogue between various cultures and civilizations, currently carried out under the UN auspices and stressed the role, Azerbaijan plays in the implementation of the Alliance of Civilizations initiative.
