Azerbaijan's Minister of Education Misir Mardanov and deputy US Secretary of State on education and culture Goli Ameri signed the first official agreement on cooperation in the sphere of education today.

"Azerbaijan and the United States maintain wide cooperation in all spheres. But our countries have not yet any official agreement on cooperation in education", said Azerbaijani Minister of Education following the document signing.
According to Novosti-Azerbaijan, Misir Mardanov added that the agreement was coordinated during the visit of Tomas Farrell, deputy US assistant secretary of state on education to Baku.
The Minister said Azerbaijan and the United States had been cooperating in the sphere of education in the framework of various programs.
"The officially signed agreement is part of the state program on studying of Azerbaijani students abroad in 2007-2015 and envisions expansion of ties between the two countries, education in the US high schools, conduction of scientific research and obtaining scientific degree, cooperation in the sidelines of educational programs, especially Fullbright's, exchange of experience", noted Mardanov.
In turn Goli Ameri said the following:
"The United States and Azerbaijan have long been cooperating in the framework of various programs and the agreement signed will promote deepening of ties between the two countries in the sphere of education".
She said the number of students to be sent for studying at US high schools has not been defined yet.
"A special commission on students' selection will be created", added Ameri.
It should be noted that the agreement will cover five years and will be financed by both countries.
