Azerbaijan's Supreme Court declines appeal of Bizim Yol newspaper correspondent

The due information was provided by journalist's defender Vuqar Khasiyev. He said the Supreme Court did not grant the appeal and upheld the decision of the Appellate Court.

The claim stated the need to pass a verdict of not guilty on his defendant.

It should be noted that on January 21 the Court of Grave Crimes sentenced Huseynov to 6 years in prison. Moreover, he is prohibited to engage in journalist activity within two years. The Appellate Court reduced the imprisonment term to Huseynov to 5 years.

The journalists was arrested by officials of the National Security Ministry on July 24. Huseynov is charged under article 311.1 (bribery).
