Day of Azerbaijan held in frames of Olympic Games in Beijing

Leaders of the international sport federations warmly welcomed President Ilham Aliyev.

"It is the fourth time that Azerbaijan has participated in the Olympic Games. To date, we have been success as our medal count at every Olympics rose as compared with every previous one. I hope we will continue this tradition", said the President at a ceremony.

The Head of State noted that the government of Azerbaijan plays an important role in developing sports in Azerbaijan as many Olympic complexes had been opened so far. Azerbaijani Leader said it is important that International Olympic Committee, European Olympic Committee presidents and Olympic movement top officials attended the opening ceremonies of the Olympic complexes.

"Sport, friendship, partnership, contacts – all these things are the important factors helping to strengthen peace and security in the world, and in this regard, Azerbaijan plays the important role. Azerbaijan is a young, independent state, but it has great culture, history and traditions as well as sport traditions," added the President.

In conclusion, President Ilham Aliyev wished every success to all athletes and happiness to all countries and their peoples.
