Azerbaijan becomes first post-Soviet and Muslim country, winning gold in 2008 Olympic Games

The gold medal of Azerbaijan, won by judoist Elnur Mamedli, became the first in the Olympic Games, received by a country from the former USSR.
According to Day.Az, Russia, Georgia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan have won medals but were not able to get to the top of the honor pedestal.

Moreover, Azerbaijan has become the first Muslim country, winning gold in Beijing. Turkey has a silver medal after three competition days, Indonesia-2 bronze, Algeria, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan each got a bronze medal.
